Why are people so desperate for fame?
I have, over the years, watched people on television, listened to them on the radio, interacted with some in person, and realized how eager they wish they would be known all over the world.
From their demeanour, when they can become famous or popular and death knocks on their door, they would gladly, without any hesitation, open their doors for death to take them away. This is because they would be fulfilled and excited that their calling on earth is done and they can rest.
So, I asked myself, does popularity actually bring fulfilment? Can all these celebrities and popular figures say they are fulfilled because they are known?
A lot of people tend to put themselves through unnecessary pressure just to become famous and get media attention and appearance. When they become popular and face the reality of the cost of fame, they resort to borrowing from friends to keep up with the fame lifestyle.
What amuses me is people often think they are celebrities when they appear on television or radio a couple of times. Then, they stop living their normal life to adopt a certain lifestyle which their financial capacity cannot handle.
Let’s say, for instance, if they use to board public transport, they quit that and start using private transport so that the masses will not notice them. Meanwhile, they just appeared on television a few times and the “masses” that they are hiding from do not exist and those that they think will notice them have not set eyes on them.
However, the fame that people are desiring, interviews granted by people in the limelight claim there is no privacy and no one to cheer them up when they are at their lowest moments after they are done making the “masses” happy.
Is it that people do not believe celebrities assertion that being famous or popular comes with boredom and cost and they want to experience it themselves?
I believe people have to slow down on their eagerness to become famous.
What has even worsened the craving for fame in this era is the emergence of social media, especially among the youth. Most of the youth these days use social media to make themselves popular which allows the media to get to them and interact with them.
I am amazed at how this generation will do anything for fame.
I hope the fame actually comes with enough money.
